Reading Difficulties Risk Screener (RDRS)
Auburn Union School District is committed to supporting every child’s journey as a developing reader. As part of California’s statewide initiative, all school districts administer the Reading Difficulties Risk Screener (RDRS) to students in designated grade levels. The RDRS is an early-literacy screening tool designed to identify students who may be at risk for reading difficulties, allowing schools to provide timely, targeted support.
The screener is brief, developmentally appropriate, and administered individually in a calm, supportive environment. Results help educators better understand early reading needs and strengthen instruction.
The state requirement for RDRS screening is outlined in California Education Code 53008.
Families may opt out of this screener by providing the school with a written request.
If you have questions or would like more information about the RDRS, please contact the AUSD Educational Services Department. We are here to support you and your student every step of the way.
