Cain Charter Middle School On December 21, 1950, the voters of Auburn, California approved a bond for $215,000 for the construction of a new school. The passing of the bonds was largely due to the efforts of Auburn Union School District Superintendent Edgar Virgil Cain. The school was needed to overcome the overcrowded conditions in the school district. The district had more than 750 students at one school. In December of the next year, they approved an additional $41,000 for additional units for the school. In 1952, the Palm Avenue School opened its doors. It was a fifth grade to eighth grade school with one fourth grade class added soon after its opening. Cain died in 1952, three years after the school was built and nine years after coming to Auburn. Palm Avenue School was renamed E.V. Cain School after his death. E.V. Cain today serves the sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students of the Auburn Union Elementary School District.with a student population of around 700. The school offers a wide variety of curriculum and extracurricular programs. Student athletes compete in the Foothill Intermediate Schools Athletic League which is comprised of 15 schools and is highly competative. Teams are fielded in cross country, flag football, girls and boys volleyball, girls and boys soccer, girls and boys basketball, wrestling, dance team, girls softball, and track & field.
